Mortgage

Do I qualify for a mortgage?

Before we even go out to look at properties we have to know if you qualify for a mortgage, for how much and if you are  comfortable with the monthly payments to be expected. This gives me the information I need to find the right house in the right price range for you. Excluding homes up front, that are out of your price range saves you and me time and disappointment. Also, in today’s market most sellers insist on having their property shown only to people who qualify to buy it. This is why you need to find a qualified mortgage lender you can trust who can pre-approve you. The pre-approval normally only takes a few minutes. In case you do not know a mortgage lender, please ask me, I can give you a list of good lenders I worked with in the past.

  • At least 6 months before your intended real estate purchase check your personal credit score with a credit bureau and if necessary correct mistakes in your credit report
  • Avoid to make big purchases like buying cars, boats or motor cycles before you apply for a mortgage. Do not apply for another credit card during that period.
  • Save as much money as you possibly can for a down payment and the closing costs. In a conventional loan with 20% or more down you do not need a PMI (private mortgage insurance)
  • If you are a veteran and would like to apply for a VA loan order your VA certificate of entitlement.
  • Pay off as much of your credit cards as you possibly can.
